This presentation lays the foundation for content based instruction and how it can be integrated into seminars for advanced students. Activities for students to discover cultural diversity, explore immigrant communities in their vicinity, and research immigration issues are introduced.
本プレゼンテーションは、内容を重視した外国語教授法の基礎を紹介し、上級学習者向けのセミナーにどのように取り入れていくかを論じた。文化的多様性に気付き、大学近辺の移民コミュニティを調査し、移民問題についてリサーチを行うといった具体的なアクティビティを紹介した。

This presentation reports on the results of a study that analyzed student attitudes towards peer teaching activities introduced in Kwansei Gakuin University’s Intensive English Courses. The findings show that students found peer teaching challenging but rewarding if the peer teaching activities had specific aims and objectives.
本プレゼンテーションでは、関西学院大学の英語集中講義で導入された、ピアティーチングに対する学生の反応の分析結果を報告した。学生は、ピアティーチングは難しいものの、具体的な目標や目的があるのであれば、価値のあるものになると考えていることが分かった。

The purpose of this workshop is for participants to learn how to encourage advanced EFL learners to explore diverse writing genres through independent research, group writing projects, and final presentations. Participants should understand how advanced EFL learners at Kobe University collaborated on projects to write movie/restaurant reviews, new articles, academic papers, and five-paragraph essays.
本ワークショップでは、外国語学習の上級者に、独自のリサーチ、グループワークによるライティング、最終プレゼンテーションなどの、多様なジャンルのライティングに取り組ませる手法を発表した。映画やレストランのレビュー、最新の記事、学術論文、五段落から成るエッセイの作成に、神戸大学の外国語学習の上級者に共同して取り組ませるために用いたプロセスを、参加者に説明した。

TED Talks can be used for EFL learners of all levels and interests. In this workshop, participants watch some TED talks and come up with ways that these talks can be incorporated in their language classroom. Then, they learn how advanced Japanese learners of English used the speeches to create peer teaching lessons for content and listening courses.
TED Talksは、習熟度・関心の対象に関わらず、あらゆる外国語学習者に対して用いることができる。本ワークショップでは、参加者がTED Talksの動画を閲覧し、それらを外国語の授業に取り入れていく方法を考察した。さらに、英語学習上級者が、内容理解やリスニングの授業で、そうしたスピーチを用いることで、いかにピアティーチングを実践しているかについて理解を深めた。

This poster presentation reports on the results of a study that investigated contextual effects on resolving ambiguous English sentences by Japanese learners of English at different proficiency levels with a difficulty judgement task and a translation task.

This presentation reports on the results of a study on Kwansei Gakuin University’s students’ motivation to continue to take English courses beyond the required courses. Students’ visions of using English in the future as they relate to extrinsic motivation as well as intrinsic motivational factors concerning their interest in studying languages fueled their motivation for furthering their foreign language studies.
本プレゼンテーションでは、関西学院大学の学生が、必修の授業に加えて、自発的に英語の授業を履修し続けることへの動機づけを調査した結果を報告した。学生が将来的にも英語を使うというビジョンを持つことが、語学学習への関心についての外発的および内発的要素と相まって、さらなる外国語学習への動機づけになっていることが分かった。

This presentation reports on the results of a study on activities that were introduced in Kwansei Gakuin University’s Language Center’s Intensive English Courses to instigate communication between international students and Japanese students. The cross-cultural activities that began prior to the international students’ visit to the Intensive English Courses and continued after their visit were helpful in motivating Japanese students to communicate with international students who represented a global community of English speakers with diverse interests including their admiration of Japanese cultures and customs.
本プレゼンテーションでは、関西学院大学の言語教育研究センターの英語集中講義で、日本人学生と海外留学生のコミュニケーションを促進する目的で導入されたアクティビティについての考察結果を報告した。海外留学生の講義への参加に先んじて行われた異文化学習のアクティビティは、留学生との交流後も継続して実施された。海外留学生は、日本の文化や風習への傾倒を含め、多様な関心を持った英語話者の国際的なコミュニティを象徴する存在であるため、彼らとの交流の動機づけを日本人学生に対して行う上で、これらのアクティビティは有益であった。

Music in a foreign language gives students a chance to learn about other cultures culture and the texture of languages that includes rhythm, intonation, and word choice. In this workshop, teachers are introduced to activities related to music that can motivate students to find ways in which foreign languages can be easily incorporated into their everyday lives.

This poster presentation reports on the results of a study that investigated temporally ambiguous relative-clause attachments by using an offline questionnaire and the eye-tracking technique with Japanese learners of English at different proficiency levels as well as native speakers of participants.
本ポスター発表は、一時的曖昧性をもった関係詞節の付加についての調査結果を報告したものである。調査はオフラインでの質問表と眼球運動測定技術を用いて、習熟度の異なる日本人英語学習者と英語のネイティブスピーカーを被験者として行われた。
