「学習者の能動的な授業への参加」は、学習者の理解と言語運用能力を伸ばす有力な手法として、コミュニケーションを中心とした外国語授業の原則の一つとして数えられる。いかによくできた教材を使用し、それを忠実に授業で実行しても、必ずしも学習者が外国語の運用能力を伸ばすことができるとは限らない。そのためには、学習者がアクティブに学習するような授業を組み立てる必要がある。本稿では近年の代表的なドイツ語総合教材Menschen A1.1を例に、日本語を母語とする学習者にあった授業の構成と補助教材の作成例を紹介し、パートナー練習などを連続的かつ発展的に組み合わせる授業モデルについて考察している
