In modern computer systems, parallel programming has become an indispensable technique for increasing speed. However, since it is necessary to include different ideas from sequential execution in programming, it is difficult for beginners to learn. Therefore, this paper describes the policy for developing a prototype web application suite of learning materials for programming education of OpenMP, POSIX threads, AVX, MPI, CUDA, and OpenACC, which are the major technologies for parallel programming, as well as the current status of the completed prototype and its preliminary evaluation. This web application suite can be used not only as a self-study material for beginners, but also as a pre-study material in flipped classrooms, and can be used as a teaching material for online lectures during the period of self-restraint from face-to-face classes due to the measures against infectious diseases. The results of the preliminary evaluation confirm that the web tool for programming exercises contributes to the improvement of the level of comprehension

Some recent processors incorporate both a GPU and multiple processing cores, and hybrid parallelism, in which parallel processing based on GPGPU on the GPU and parallel processing based on multi-threading on the CPU are performed simultaneously, is now available. ratio of CPU and GPU differs depending on the application, and it is difficult to determine the optimal load distribution in advance. The authors previously proposed an onthe-fly auto-tuning method to determine the optimal load distribution at runtime, but it was necessary to determine in advance the ratio of the computational range to be used for the fallback execution (AutoRatio). We proposed an on-the-fly auto-tuning method that performs incremental preruns at runtime without determining the AutoRatio, and confirmed the effectiveness of the method for four different applications.

Auto-generation of programming exercises for education of MPI and AVX parallel programming Reviewed

As semiconductor technology advances, parallel systems using parallel programming environments such as AVX and MPI are becoming popular in many application fields. Not only knowledge of many APIs and their usage, but also a lot of practical programming experience including intercomputer data transfer is necessary for beginners to master parallel programming. To cope with such a problem, we develop the following three educational exercises for parallel programming: 1) debugging practices (syntax practices) to learn how to use APIs, 2) output estimation practices (semantics practices) including data transfer between computing nodes and 3) fill-in-the-blank question (integrated practices), Then, we develop a web application with automatic exercise generator for programming education using templates and scripting language. The effectiveness of the system with automatic grading functionality will be confirmed through educational experiments with AVX and MPI.
