The presenters first discuss the idea that a sense of irrationality or absurdity is often part of the meaning of trauma and plays a significant role in the healing process. Recent trends in the psychoanalytic understanding of trauma that support this understanding are then reviewed. Next, the results of the study are presented. Finally, the clinical implications of their findings are illustrated by means of a short clinical vignette.
