Microwave radiation from extensive air showers is expected to provide a new technique to observe UHECR. We insatlled and operate radio telescopes in Osaka and at Telescope Array site in Utah, USA. In Osaka, we are coincidentally operating two Ku band radio telescopes with an air shower array which consists of nine plastic scintillators with about 10 m separation. In Utah, we installed two telescopes just beside the Black Rock Mesa fluorescence detector (FD) station of the Telescope Array experiment, and we operated the radio telescopes coincidentally with FD event triggers. We report the experimental setups and the results of these measurements.

Two experiments for the detections of Molecular Bremsstrahlung Radiation (MBR) from air-shower are under development in West Japan, One of these systems consists of 12 parabola antennas. And the other one uses a 45 cm Broadcasting Satellite (BS) antenna in a scintillator array. Both experiments measure 12 GHz radio emission from air-showers. The setup and the status of these experiments will be reported.

The isoscalar giant monopole resonance (ISGMR) in even-A Cd isotopes has been studied by inelastic alpha-scattering at 100 MeV/u and at extremely forward angles, including 0 degrees. The asymmetry term in the nuclear incompressibility extracted from the ISGMR in Cd isotopes is found to be K-tau = -555 +/- 75 MeV, confirming the value previously obtained from the Sn isotopes. ISGMR strength has been computed in relativistic RPA using NL3 and FSUGold effective interactions. Both models significantly overestimate the centroids of the ISGMR strength in the Cd isotopes. Combined with other recent theoretical effort, the question of the "softness" of the open-shell nuclei in the tin region remains open still. (C) 2012 Elsevier By. All rights reserved.

Total and partial photoneutron cross sections for Pb isotopes

Using quasimonochromatic laser-Compton scattering gamma rays, total photoneutron cross sections were measured for Pb-206,Pb-207,Pb-208 near neutron threshold with a high-efficiency 4 pi neutron detector. Partial E1 and M1 photoneutron cross sections along with total cross sections were determined for Pb-207,Pb-208 at four energies near threshold by measuring anisotropies in photoneutron emission with linearly polarized gamma rays. The E1 strength dominates over the M1 strength in the neutron channel where E1 photoneutron cross sections show extra strength of the pygmy dipole resonance in Pb-207,Pb-208 near the neutron threshold corresponding to 0.32%-0.42% of the Thomas-Reiche-Kuhn sum rule. Several mu(2)(N) units of B(M1) up arrow strength were observed in Pb-207,Pb-208 just above neutron threshold, which correspond to an M1 cross section less than 10% of the total photoneutron cross section.

A high-resolution measurement of inelastic proton scattering off Zr-90 near 0 degrees was performed at 295 MeV with a focus on a pronounced strength previously reported in the low-energy tail of giant dipole resonance. A forest of fine structure was observed in the excitation energy region 7-12 MeV. A multipole decomposition analysis of the angular distribution for the forest was carried out using the ECIS95 distorted-wave Born approximation code with the Hartree-Fock plus random-phase approximation model of E1 and M1 transition densities and inclusion of E1 Coulomb excitation. The analysis separated pygmy dipole and M1 resonances in the forest at E-PDR 9.15 +/- 0.18 MeV with Gamma(PDR) = 2.91 +/- 0.64 MeV and at E-M1 = 9.53 +/- 0.06 MeV with Gamma(M1) = 2.70 +/- 0.17 MeV in the Lorentzian function, respectively. The B(E1) up arrow value for pygmy dipole resonance over 7-11 MeV is 0.75 +/- 0.08 e(2) fm(2), which corresponds to 2.1 +/- 0: 2% of the Thomas-Reiche-Kuhn sum rule.

A Ga-71(He-3,t)Ge-71 charge-exchange experiment was performed to extract with high precision the Gamow-Teller (GT) transition strengths to the three lowest-lying states in Ge-71, i.e., the ground state (1/2(-)), the 175 keV (5/2(-)) and the 500 key (3/2(-)) excited states. These are the relevant states, which are populated via a charged-current reaction induced by neutrinos from reactor-produced Cr-51 and Ar-37 sources. A precise measurement of the GT transition strengths is an important input into the calibration of the SAGE and GALLEX solar neutrino detectors and addresses a long-standing discrepancy between the measured and evaluated capture rates from the Cr-51 and Ar-37 neutrino calibration sources, which has recently spawned new ideas about unconventional neutrino properties.
